Mufasa is a male common seal pup that was found on 21st August 2016 at Tramore Beach in Waterford by Jude & Keith O Halloran.
Thanks to Jude & keith for transporting Mufasa all the way to the centre.
Mufasa is between 2 - 3 weeks old and weighed only 13Kg. He was very dehydrated, had a few scratches on his chin that had become infected and a very high temperature.
When mufasa arrived at the centre he was given cold fluids and he was hosed down to try and regulate his temperature. He was also started on a strong dose of antibiotics to combat the infection.
Over the next 24 critical hours Mufasa's temperature was up and down but thankfully he was a fighter and the antibiotics kicked in.
When his temperature was high the cold showers made him feel so much better.
After a few days Mufasa was feeling better so we moved him to one of the kennels where he had more space and access to to a proper bath.
Mufasa is still getting tube fed with fish soup and fluids to keep him hydrated. We have started giving him fish in his bath and hopefully over the next few days we will be able to move onto fish feeds.
We will keep you posted on Mufasa's progress.
