Ollie and Lulu enjoying their new large enclosure!
After a long ordeal with moving and getting their new enclosure escape-proof (not an easy task- otters are very clever), Ollie and Lulu have been enjoying their larger home, filled with all the things that otters love! With plenty of room to run and swim, and lots of branches and dirt to play in, Ollie and Lulu are learning how to behave like proper young otters. We have had nearly no contact with them, with the exception of leaving food in their enclosure. This will assure that they are wary of people again before their anticipated release this August.
All of the summer volunteers have arrived!
The summer season volunteer team has arrived! Six resident volunteers have joined the ranks of our three year-round volunteers, making our happy family quite large. Victoria has joined us from England, Laurence from France, Enrique from Spain, Sarah and Taylor from the USA, and Jason from Ireland! This diverse group will be helping with the care of all of the common seal pups that need care this summer, with some staying on for the winter season of grey seal pups. Come by the centre to meet us!
Ready or not, here they come! (Common seal pups!)
We have been spending any spare moment working to get the centre ready for the upcoming rush of common seal pups! Everything from scrubbing and sanitizing kennels to print off paperwork needs to be done without a moment to spare. The summer team is eagerly anticipating the incoming cute common seal pups, as the grumpy grey seals pups currently in our care are quite feisty and need to return to the ocean ASAP before we get fed up with them! :)
