Meet Amber, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn!

Meet Amber, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn!

Amber was rescued on 27th November 2015 from Ballymoney beach, North Wexford after being found by Karen Dodson and brought in by our own lovely Meadow Greenwood.

Amber was in very poor condition suffering from extreme emaciation dehydration and wounds on her back, flipper and hips. At only around 4 weeks old, Amber was a fraction of the weight she should of been at a mere 13kg. Grey seal pups of her age if weaned by a mother should be over 40kg! She had whittled down to below the normal birth weight.

Thankfully Amber responded well to initial treatment and after some heat, some fluids and some delicious fish soup she has started to gain condition back. She is now in a big kennel and starting to enjoy short baths. She still has a long way to go and a lot more weight to gain, but she is progressing well.

Poison Ivy was found 1st December 2015 in Galway by a member of Galway City Council. She was rescued and transported by the wonderful Mary of Galway & Claddagh Swan Rescue and received initial treatment with Arks Vets Galway. Big thank you's all around to all involved in her rescue and getting her to us!

Little Poison Ivy was in a terrible way when she came in, extremely emaciated at only 10.5kg, very dehydrated and so weak she couldn't even lift her head. It just flopped around whenever we needed to move her. She was also suffering from multiple wounds on her flipper and head.

She was around 3 weeks of age as she had begun to moult her lanugo coat, in a very unusual fashion...her top half had already moulted, but from her waist down she still had her white fur, and so it looked like she was wearing little fluffy trousers! Hehe!

Thankfully little Ivy was rescued just in time, and after several days of warmth, rest, intensive fluid therapy to get her hydrated, and antibiotic treatment she was feeling a lot better and coming to life. She is improving every day and has since completely moulted her baby fur and moved into a big kennel where she is now having baths.

At last we have Harley Quinn who was rescued on 4th December 2015 from Ballyquin Strand, Co. Waterford. Huge shout out to Connor Walsh, Sophie Court, Jack Walsh and Pat Walsh for finding and rescuing the pup along with an extra big thank you to Michael and Andrew Quinn from Waterford Animal Welfare for picking up and driving Harley all the way to the centre!

Harley Quinn was very thin and had a wound on the right side of her body, and was weak and lethargic when found. She was initially given fluids and put on a course of antibiotics to treat the infected wound and awful halitosis (bad breath from mouth infection). She is progressing well and is in a big kennel now and showing interest in fish which is wonderful!
