Frequent rain at this time of year causes the river to rise, sending all sorts of stuff rushing by this country town cottage, from branches and entire tree trunks to beer kegs and barrels, and naturally – or in fact unnaturally – endless plastic junk and bottles.
This inverted Noah’s Ark occasionally includes dead animals; I’ve seen sheep and even a pony being carried out to sea. But recently the opposite happened, with the guest appearance of a marine creature in the form of a common seal – which is actually not common at all, to confuse matters.
