Environmental Management Assistant
Position facilitated through Tus Scheme.
Seal Rescue Ireland is partnering with the Tus Scheme to offer an exciting new position for three individuals who have an interest in nature, environmental studies, habitat restoration, research and hands-on, outdoor work for one year. Whether you’ve studied or worked in this field before, or are looking to change the trajectory of your career, this position will provide a valuable opportunity to upskill, with a diverse range of tasks and research relating to the restoration of the natural world.
We are seeking reliable, motivated people that work well in a team, have great communication skills, and can follow directions. We have a preference for candidates with a relevant qualification or background in environmental science, biology, landscaping, botany or a focus on sustainability, biodiversity and ecosystem services. However, the position is open to anyone who qualifies for Tus Scheme, as on-the-job training will be provided across all projects.
Successful candidates will work with Seal Rescue Ireland on:
– Habitat Restoration Projects (we have 25,000 native trees to plant, invasive vegetation removal, marram grass planting, coastal management)
– Bio-monitoring, habitat assessments, research reporting, and data entry.
– Trail Maintenance, in Natural Heritage Area (hedge-trimming, strimming, pesticide-free vegetation management).
– Public surveys, education, and outreach.
– Waste management & recycling.
– Maintenance (fences, painting, landscaping, natural gardening).
– Educational signage (Erecting new signage and maintaining/cleaning existing signs).
Candidates will need to be able to commit to a set schedule, making up 19.5 hours per week. They will also need to have access to their own transportation as work will take place at different sites in the Courtown-Gorey area.
The Tús initiative is a community work placement scheme providing short-term working opportunities for unemployed people to gain and hone their skills while doing important work to benefit the community.
To qualify for the Tús scheme, you must:
-have been continuously unemployed for at least 12 months and “signing on” on a full-time basis OR
-have been receiving a jobseeker’s payment (Jobseeker’s Benefit or Jobseeker’s Allowance) from the department for at least 12 months OR
-be currently receiving Jobseeker’s Allowance.
Animal Care Manager
The Animal Care Manager (ACM) is responsible for overseeing daily operations of SRI’s wildlife rehabilitation hospital and ensuring the facility is providing the best in animal welfare. This is a high paced position split between overseeing animal care, management tasks and administration in the office. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Executive Director and Operational Team in all aspects involved in running a wildlife hospital including but not limited to animal care, budgeting, and assisting in rescues and releases. The Animal Care Manager is responsible for overseeing and delegating responsibilities to a team of Assistant Animal Care Managers as well as long term and short term volunteers.
Marketing and Media Coordinator
This position will provide the candidate with work experience in all aspects of a rescue and rehabilitation centre with a primary focus on producing quality media content, digital design, written content, photos and video for use on our website, social media, monthly newsletter, adoptions programme, marketing, educational and fundraising projects. The coordinator will lead marketing and advertising projects, fundraising programs and events, and other administrative tasks.
The Education Manager will be responsible for overseeing and developing SRI’s marine conservation and sustainability focused education programs for various audiences and groups of visitors. The Education Manager will need to be able to plan, develop and deliver educational programs, activities, games, and materials which are tailored to each group’s specific needs, ages, interests and curriculum.
