Volunteers are the backbone of our organisation. Over 850 volunteer hours are poured into the rescue centre every week! Our volunteers are involved in all aspects of the organisation from the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sick and injured seal pups, to community engagement, education, conservation and fundraising. Be A ‘Seal Rescuer For A Day’

Are you, a friend or family member curious about what it’s like to work in a marine mammal hospital? Sign up for SRI’s Seal “Rescuer For A Day” programme to find out! This three hour behind the scenes experience gives you and up to three people the opportunity to:

  • Get a behind the scenes tour of the hospital
  • Participate in food preparation and feeding the seals
  • Clean and maintain seal enclosures
  • Work up close with the seal pups in care
  • Learn each pup’s background story and how to protect them in the wild
  • Take exclusive photos
